Carrying on - The Second Sitting

A couple of notes, I will be setting the time of the session posts to the start times of the sessions not the time I manage to post it.
I had also thought about dropping the term Growler as it has been pointed out it’s slang for something else, but Wikipedia backed me up it is definitely the correct term for the Beer Jug in question.

Planning

During the week me and Terry had been in contact over a second Iron Maiden session, Terry works nights so this was going to be a morning session smaller in scale to be done by lunch time.

On that note I filled up a growler at The Garage Project on Friday all ready for the Sunday morning.

Kick Off

I picked up Terry at 8:30 A.M. and we went via The Wadestown Kitchen to grab some breakfast, We got to mine and whist eating I was lamenting the condition of my Best of the Beast LPs that I picked up off eBay.

Best of the Beast - Vinyl 3 Side 1

This launched us into Best Of The Beast - Vinyl 3 Side 1 and a Garage Project - Orange Sunshine. Great beer and Great songs!

A small rant was done over the concert list and write up in the book, it’s claimed they came to NZ in 1982 “Once again the band broke new ground visiting Australia and New Zealand for the first time” The concert list show they only played Australian locations then.
When they did make it to NZ in 1992 the concert list shows “AUCKLAND (AUSTRALIA), Logan Campbell Centre” arrrggghhh!

Flight 666 - The Movie

The crowning glory on The Best Of The Beast box set is being kept for another session, So the Best Of The Beast was put away and we switched to DVDs.

Fired up the TV and poured out a Garage Project - Garagista

Flight 666

It’s a good movie that was put together by the guys who made the Global Metal doco.

Is there anything Bruce can’t do? Awesome footage from around the world and the different crowds and reactions from the different areas.

Much discussion went down at this point whether we include songs featured in the movie in the overall song list, We decided against it as none appeared to be full length and they are on the concert disc.

So at about 11 A.M. we decided to have the 3rd beer for the day which was another Garage Project - Orange Sunshine finishing off the growler.

Flight 666 - The Concert

While still on the Orange Sunshine we moved over to the concert disc of Flight 666, This was all going great until Heaven Can Wait, I mused what album is this from and started looking at all my LPs for the song, I am pretty sure I looked at Somewhere In Time first but didn’t see the song listed, then went on to look at about 5 other albums but couldn’t find it.
Terry couldn’t remember either and much confusion was going down at this point until I rechecked (or did Terry look it up on the net?) Somewhere In Time and there it was… What kind of Maiden fans are we…..

After that moment Terry decided we needed some Lunch to soak up some of the Beer and pizza was ordered.

While waiting on the pizza and watching more of the concert footage we split a 2012 Boon - Kriek Mariage Parfait

Kriek Mariage Parfait

A very tasty beer, Good sour hit and nice fruit taste. We finished the Kriek in time for the massive pizza feast.

Live At The Rainbow

While eating the concert finished so we moved from the new to the very old with Live At The Rainbow off The History Of Iron Maiden Part 1: The Early Days. I had been wanting this DVD for a while as I remember a friend used to have the Live At The Rainbow VHS.

We matched this with Garage Project - Pernicious Weed

Pernicious Weed

Good hoppy beer. The concert at the Rainbow was a great contrast to the 2009 Iron Maiden with Bruce and his vocal range and the 3 guitarists to then see the in 1980 Iron Maiden with 2 Guitarist and Paul singing. Bruce is and amazing vocalist and was a fantastic change for Iron Maiden when he took that role but Paul DiAnno really owns the first two albums songs. His more punk like growl works so well on the older punchier songs of the first two albums.

All was concluded at 2 P.M.

Aftermath

After we finished the Listen-A-Ron session we headed down to the supermarket and picked up some Epic - Pale ale then walked back to Terry’s place (Around 4.5 km away).
We had one on the walk and slogged it up the hill. Had another at Terry’s then I Skateboarded home (mostly down hill so nice and quick). It sounds like we both managed to carry on a lot longer than originally planned…
