Session 6.66 - 15/08/2015

The single was released Friday night. I was out at Beervana with friends all day and then we headed to Black Dog for some more beers. I had been carrying around head phones all day just in case the single was released while I was out. I had a quick listen through my headphones to the youtube video and then asked if I could play it over the bar’s sound system, they happily agreed.

When I got home that night I purchased the digital single.

Terry headed over to my place in the morning, I was feeling a little slow after such a big day.

Speed Of Light

We kicked off at 11:30 A.M. with the Speed Of Light video and a Moa - Session Pale Ale.

First impressions of the video and music were good. The video has many interesting maiden history references.

The beer was not the best, both Terry and I sipped at it for a while but it was doing nothing for me. It was very bitter, bland and not much hop character.

We listened to Speed Of Light twice more off my phone which was plugged into the stereo. Terry thought the guitar sound was a little rawer and we both thought Bruce’s vocals seemed a little rougher than previous Maiden works but still great. The cow bell at the start of the song sticks out as an odd thing to be in there especially as it is so prominent.

Different World

3 Iron Maiden singles arrived this morning. All picture disks, 2 x 7” and 1 x 12”. One of the 7” singles is Different world. Being from their 2006 album, it seemed like a good record to listen to.

11:55 A.M. Terry and I both came to the conclusion this beer really wasn’t doing it for us. Sadly the rest went down the sink.

This allowed us to open a Mata Brown-Boy. This is a brown ale, not the most exciting beer but it was well made and balanced. The style is a very simple style so I wasn’t expecting to be wowed but the beer was a nice enough example of a brown ale.

We moved onto side 2 of the 7” single which had a 2006 live version of Fear Of The Dark.

Speed Of Light

After the 7” single we played Speed Of Light another time. Discussing the song and our thoughts on it. We both agreed the song shows a lot of promise for the album.

El Dorado

This was the first digital only single Iron Maiden released off The Final Frontier so we decided to listen to a digital copy of the song. Bruce’s vocals sounded very similar on this song, we began to wonder if we were just comparing the Speed Of Light vocals with much earlier recordings.

Speed Of Light

You guessed it we listened to this again from my phone. We then finished up by watching the video again.

When Terry had arrived he had said we should listen to the single 6 times, so this is what we did.

Once the video finished we watched it again pausing all the way through. There are hidden cover images and art in windows and on walls as well as in the mini games. The computer graphics were well done and it was a interesting idea.

While nerding over the video and looking for hidden things we poured out a Lindemans - Gueuze Cuvée René. This is a great Belgium sour beer.

Gueuze Cuvée René

We closed the session at 1 P.M.
