Session 8 - 24/10/2015

Here I sit on the 4th of April (posting on the 12th).This has to be a record with five Months to even start the write up. Five months may also be the longest break we have had between sessions.

In around two weeks we are due to head off on a trip to see Iron Maiden three times and Black Sabbath twice. I want to post after the concerts so I really needed to catch up on the sessions first.

Normally my notes are enough to jog my memory, but five months and an A4 piece of paper may not produce much.

I was reasonably sure we were trying for a Back To The Future theme with the dates and old world/new world beers. I confirmed the theme with this quote from an email “The theme is ‘Back To The Future’ cause Marty McFly is going to land in Hill Valley in next couple of days”.

The Final Frontier

1:40 P.M. We started this session with The Final Frontier and a Fullers - London Pride.
2:01 P.M. Side 2
2:16 P.M. Fullers - ESB

Terry - “We both liked ‘The Final Frontier’ and realised that all the listening to the more recent albums was paying off as we were enjoying them more and more. ‘A Matter of Life and Death’ remained the favourite post-2000 album though.”

We listened to Side 3 and 4 and then we moved on to:

Rock In Rio

Well we attempted to move on to Rock In Rio. I first had to locate a region free DVD player. Luckily I had one in the garage, who said keeping old crap was a bad idea (how one becomes a hoarder by justifying the situation).

3:00 P.M. Rock in Rio DVD
3:12 P.M. Courage - Directors Superior Ale
3:45 P.M. Fullers - 1845
4:45 P.M. St Bernardus - Wit

Terry - “Rock in Rio is a great document of the return of Bruce & Adrian to the band. Interesting set list with several songs from ‘Virtual XI’ on it and a lot from ‘Brave New World’. Slightly plagued with the repetitive lyrics that were then in-vogue for Maiden.”

1985 Running Free

5:06 P.M. Running Free Picture Disc
Well it seems I started this on the wrong side and at the wrong speed, it is pressed at 33 RPM not 45 RPM. Ah well, this amused Terry greatly.

Killers

5:25 P.M. Killers
I feel I should comment on this album but there is not much to say. It’s Killers - it’s a fantastic album and further points to where the band will be heading over the next thirty-five years.

6:00 P.M. Modern Times - Fortunate Islands - Grapefruit Zest

Twilight Zone

6:10 P.M. Twilight Zone - One of the newly pressed 7” singles.

The Aftermath

DiAnno - DiAnno

In keeping with Iron Maiden related follow-ups we had DiAnno - DiAnno. This LP is a strange mix of 80’s pop and rock. It was released the same year and Powerslave and is as far from Iron Maiden as he could have moved.

The song Heartuser was recorded by both DiAnno and Cliff Richard and released in 1984.

We listened to DiAnno with an 8 Wired - Hippy Berliner.

Terry - “Lots of laughter induced by ‘Dianno’. Particularly the repetitive beats and cheesey keyboards were a source of amusement.”

The rest of the evening was spent listening punk records (Dead Boys and No Tag) and eating some food.
